Lagos government contributes N25bn to employment trust fund

 

Lagos-LogoIn its efforts to support small scale enterprises, Lagos State Government has contributed N25 billion to the Employment Trust Fund.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment, Mr. Abdul-Ahmed Mustapha revealed this at the flag-off ceremony of training tradesmen and artisans at Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, in collaboration with Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB), is training Tradesmen and Artisans in the State to enhance their productivity and upgrade their skills.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Mustapha said the training will last for eight weeks and would take place simultaneously at five different locations in the State.

According to him, the state government has contributed the sum of N25 billion to the Employment Trust Fund to support small scale enterprises, stressing that the guidelines for accessing the loan would be made public soon.

While stressing the determination of the present administration to reduce unemployment rate and skill deficiency among artisans in Lagos, he advised the participants to form co-operative societies in order to improve the ease of accessing the fund.

Responding on behalf of the participants, the President, Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans, LASCOTA, Alhaji Nurudeen Buhari commended the Lagos State Government, especially the Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment for the initiative.

He however implored LASCOTA members to take full advantage of the training to update their skills and improve their capacity.
