House of Representatives suspends whistleblower Abdulmumin Jibrin
The House of Representatives have suspended Honorable Abdulmumin Jibrin for 180 sitting days.
Hon. Jubrin had alleged Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and leaders of the House of Representatives of padding 2016 budget.
House of Representatives suspended former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation for 180 sitting days for breaching the practices and precedents of the House.
The House also barred Jibrin from positions of authority till the end of the 8th assembly. The House demanded that Jubrin should tender a former written apology to the House before resumption of duties.
The House Ethics and Privileges Committee had on Friday summoned Jibrin to explain why he went against House rules by taking the budget padding issue to the media.
At the resumed sitting of the committee on Monday, Abdulmumin Jibrin shunned the House Ethics and Privileges Committee.
Jibrin had initially promised to appear before the panel if the proceedings were opened to the public.
But on Sunday, he said he had changed his decision, accusing the committee of bias and lack of independence.
Jibrin earlier explained his absence at the Committee on Ethics and Privileges which summoned him over the budget padding allegations he leveled at leaders of the House.
Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday, Jibrin said that he shunned the panel because the Chairman, Nicholas Ossai had demonstrated bias in words and action.
He said, “Ahead of the resumption of the House I wrote a 17-page letter to all members and one of the issues I raised is that I was finding it difficult to write to the committee on Ethics and Privileges because I do not believe that he has the ability of being impartial.
