Nono Ogochukwu Eloike, Astute Communications Strategist with expertise in Behavioural Change Communications and Public Relations, is holding her first book reading for her book “Ichabod: Daughters Who Did Not Inherit Their Mother’s Silence”.

The author on Wednesday said the book reading event for the sought after self help book for women was scheduled for May 17 at Ouida, Opebi area of Lagos.

Eloike said the event with theme” Unsilenced Daughters” would help with addressing emerging gender disparity issues globally.

She noted that so many solutions went untapped daily because of the restrictions placed on women’s right of choice, hence her commitment to fostering women’s right of choice.

She added that the societal expectations of women was rigid and highly gate kept in such a way that any woman that doesn’t follow through with the status quo was considered a deviant and angry.

Speaking of the untapped resources and creativity embedded in women for centuries due to institutionalised restrictions, she quoted United Nation’s Women.org report that states that globally, over 2.7 billion women are legally restricted from having the same choice of jobs as men.

It added that the gender gap in labour force participation has hovered at 30 per cent since 1990, with men’s participation at around 80 per cent and women’s at 50 per cent, globally.

“These restrictions limits access to finance, creativity and application of knowledge, a very dangerous quest that ensures that the world remains intellectually malnourished.

” It has now become a key imperative for everyone who is committed to societal growth to break their silence and actively champion women’s right of choice and self-determination.

“The Unsilenced Daughters and sons book reading event is designed to spur meaningful conversations that are beyond rhetoric.

“Beyond the conversations are actionable points that can be raised and executed both at an individual level and at a community level,” she said.

Eloike added that the event targeted women and men who understand the indispensable nature of women in societal growth.

She said it focused on people aware of the resources and growth gaps being created by the impediments placed on women’s right of choice especially in Nigeria and were willing to break their silences on this issue.

According to Eloike, participation is based on reservation as the event is expected to have between 40-50 guests across various spheres of life, including the media.
