Honourable Sodiq Omotayo

Honourable Sodiq Omotayo, a prominent Nigerian political advocate deeply committed to the principles of peace and justice, has made an urgent appeal to Israel and Iran to cease their current exchanges of weaponry and military hostilities.

In a statement, he conveyed his profound apprehension regarding the escalating military tensions that have been increasingly evident between the two nations.

As a steadfast advocate for responsible global leadership, Hon. Omotayo emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts rather than resorting to armed conflict.

He underscored that the ongoing cycle of violence not only jeopardizes the stability of the region but also poses significant risks to global peace and security.

Through his remarks, he highlighted the moral imperative for nations to prioritise human welfare and to engage constructively in discussions aimed at fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

Hon. Omotayo’s advocacy reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that conflicts are addressed through peaceful means, rather than through the use of force, which often leads to devastating consequences for civilians and long-term repercussions for international relations.

By appealing for an end to the dangerous exchange of firearms, Omotayo hopes to inspire a renewed focus on diplomacy, ultimately paving the way for a more peaceful and just world for all.

According to him, reports of Israel’s strike on Iranian territory and Iran’s immediate retaliation mark a dangerous development in an already volatile region. The world cannot afford a widening conflict at this critical time when diplomatic engagement is needed more than ever”, he said.

He urged the leadership of both nations to consider the profound consequences of continued aggression not only for their own citizens but for regional and global peace.

The cycle of provocation and retaliation must be broken, he stated.

He therefore called on Israel and Iran to show restraint and prioritize de-escalation.

“The international community, including the United Nations, African Union, and other peace-focused bodies, to intervene swiftly with diplomatic channels. All leaders and citizens worldwide should speak up for peaceful solutions over warfare.”

Peace is not passive, it is a responsibility we must all bear, he said.
