LASG urged LG/LCDAs to embrace cashless revenue collection

 

Sole Administrators in the 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State have been urged to embrace cashless revenue collection through the use of Information Technology in order to prevent revenue leakages.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Muslim Folami gave the urge at the Orchid Hotel, Lekki, during the opening ceremony of a Three-Day workshop, with the Theme: Impact of Cashless and Deployment of Information Technology System and Improvement on Internally Generated Revenueorganized by the Ministry for newly appointed Sole Administrators and Heads of Accounts and Finance, saying that the theme of the workshop is very apt and relevant as all hands must be on deck to improve on the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Folami noted that the training is about acquisition of skills, knowledge and attitude, adding that capacity building of the newly appointed sole administrators is essential and imperative to effective revenue collections, stressing that the workshop will enable the participants have better understanding of the cashless policy and operation of the system.

While reiterating that the workshop will create easy platform for Lagosians to make payment electronically and through the use of POS for all transactions with the Local Government Councils across the State, the Commissioner urged them to participate actively in order to acquire the necessary knowledge, understanding and exposure that will equip them for the challenges ahead.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Jafar Sanuth implored them to enlighten all the revenue collectors in their various Local Government and Local Council Development Areas on how to improve their operations in other to eliminate all forms of revenue leakages.

Responding on behalf of other Sole Administrators and Heads of Accounts and Finance, Sole Administrator of Bariga LCDA and Chairman of Conference 57, Mr. Sanya Osijo, commended the State Government for organizing the workshop, stressing that it will not only assist them on how to improve the revenue generation of their various councils through cashless policy but will make it easier and safer for the rate payers to transact with POS and other electronic means of payment.
