Lagos moves to streamline revenue collection

In a bid to resolve issues of multiple taxes, the Lagos State Government has held a stakeholders forum to streamline and resolve conflict areas in revenue generation by State Government, Local Government and Local Council Development Areas’ agencies in the State.

Speaking at the gathering, the State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Mustapha Akinkunmi explained that the purpose of the meeting is to address the issues of multiple taxation as well as revenue collection, in order to enhance easy payment in Lagos State.

According to him, “We must deal with multiple taxation and introduce technology to help us in creating a good database for ease of payment. Also, we must review existing laws, in conjunction with LG and LCDAs, in order to resolve the issue of collection and disbursement”.

He noted that the outcome of the meeting would go a long way to determine whether there is need for any legislative changes through the State House of Assembly.

Earlier in his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance Mr. Tunde Ogunleye noted that the State has been having a running battle with LG/LCDA in the State regarding the issue of revenue generation which must be addressed and streamlined without creating additional hardship for the populace.
