Equity market opens week on positive trend, gains N176bn

 

THE equities segment of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) opens on a positive note today despite a dip in both trade volume and value relative to the previous trading session.
The two main barometer of the bourse, the market capitalization and the NSE All Share Index appreciated by N176 billion and 511 basis points respectively.
The bourse maintained last week’s gaining streak as it recorded a 1.41 percent gain today. The index and market capitalization closed higher at 36,831.93 points and N12.678 trillion respectively.
The bulls continue to dominate the market as market breadth closed positive with 21 losers against 27 gainers.
The flow of activities in the market for the day had a wide reach on the basis of the classification of stocks as regards the gainers’ chart as May & Baker Plc, International Breweries Plc, Sterling Bank Plc, Total Nigeria Plc and Fluor Mill Plc made up the top five gainers while AG Leventis Plc, Diamond Bank Plc, Linkage Assurance Plc, NAHCO Plc and Unity Bank Plc dominate the losers’ chart.
The volume and value of trades both declined by -28.55 percent and -19.96 percent respectively from the previous trading session. Other than the NSE All Share Index that has remained unchanged at 1156.70 points for days now, all other sector indices closed positive.
